These classes are suitable for both beginners and those with previous experience who wish to develop their skills. Students can expect to gain experience in various watercolour techniques such as wet-in-wet, dry brush, use of sponges, creating washes and textures, as well as working from a variety of subjects. The aim of the course is to encourage and improve watercolour technique in a relaxing and enjoyable atmosphere.

You will need to bring your own materials. Bring what you have and are used to working with to include colours, brushes, paper and appropriate accessories. If you are new to watercolour or are re-stocking the following would be a good basis:

Colours
The Cotman watercolours are a good buy and reasonably priced as are St. Petersburg watercolours from Ken Bromley mail order (tel: 0845 330 3234/www.artsupplies.co.uk). Any artists quality tubes or pans are good. Basic colours would be ultramarine, cobalt blue, alizarin crimson, cadmium red, lemon yellow, cadmium yellow - plus if possible yellow ochre, burnt umber, raw umber, burnt sienna, violet and Prussian blue.

Brushes
Pro Arte is a good make - at least brushes Nos. 4, 8 , 10 in round head and a l cm flat brush.

Paper
140 lb. Bockingford NOT paper - the cheapest way to buy it is in large sheets that you can then cut to size. Bring at least 2 sheets to the first class.

Other Equipment
3B pencil, rubber, low tack watercolour masking tape, watercolour sponge, white loo roll, white wax candle, old toothbrush and if you have a board to work on bring it. There are some boards available in the class.
