An exciting mix of basic drawing and painting with more unusual ways tp produce a successful still life.
This 10 week course will look at still life in a fresh way. Learn about basic composition, volume, perspective, colour mixing and theory, whilst improving your drawing and painting skills. Every week relevant examples of work by the masters will be used to illustrate the current topic. All levels welcome
The ten lessons will cover:
An introduction, drawing a still life with figure, followed by discussion.
Making a large black and white drawing, looking at shape, tone and proportion.
Working with black and white plus two colours, considering cropping.
Basic colour mixing and theory, trying out different painting techniques and textures.
Introducing patterns into the composition, looking at examples.
Mixing media with montage.
Painting and drawing with unusual tools.
Making a monotype.
Adding other media to a monotype such as pencil, paint or crayons.
Putting still life objects in different settings - an interior, a landscape.
Materials needed:
Paper - at least A3 size, or canvas
Drawing media - pencil (2B or softer), charcoal, pastel and crayons
Brushes
Water-mixable paints of your choice
Palette or plate for mixing colours
Masking tape to fix paper to drawing board
An apron or overall
These practical courses offer instruction in basic skills of drawing and painting, with due consideration for students widely varied experience and ability, whether beginners or improvers. A variety of media may be used.
