China Painting

Introduction to the craft of china painting, or advancing already learnt skills. All aspects of this fascinating and addictive art will be covered, from basic painting techniques to advanced modern techniques using raised paste inserts and lustres.

Come and enjoy a wonderful hobby, in a friendly atmosphere and produce future heirlooms!


All levels of ability can be met within one class. Beginners will learn to mix the paints with oils and apply them to either traced or freehand designs. After trying work on plates and tiles, hollowware can be attempted, e.g. vases, mugs, bowls, trinket boxes etc.


All students will receive individual attention as well as class instruction. Each week, an information sheet will be issued, plus suggested reading lists, clubs and demonstration news.


Equipment and china can be supplied by the tutor. A beginners' kit will be available from the tutor at about £40, which will cover most initial needs.
This can be gradually built up.

Firing will be done by the tutor for about 40p. per item.

Extra items to bring to class

Notepad and pen and pencil, Pure Turpentine, Flat box for painted pieces (e.g. pizza box),
Methylated+ Spirits, Any watercolour brushes you may have, Kitchen roll paper,
Folder for paper work, Tool kit box for transportation of painting kit. (Boxes available at DIY stores.)
